Prevents sleepiness by drinking a Cherry Juice


Do you like to drink juice?

There is now a recent study, that drinking cherry juice can prevent drowsiness. Sour or sweet cherry fruit is very healthy. Cherry fruits contain lots of vitamin c. In addition, the cherry fruit contains anthocyanins, the red pigment that is good for health because an antioxidant.

Research at Northumbria University showed, that the cherry juice was efficacious increase the production of the hormone melatonin. What is the hormone melatonin?

Melatonin is a hormone naturally produced by the body to restore your biological sleep clock. This hormone serves to regulate circadian rhythms, which are associated with patterns of sleep and the body's ability to distinguish day and night. 

Gly Dr Howatson, who led the study involved 30 volunteers who were divided into 3 groups. One of them got cherry juice 30 mL 2 times a day, while others get tart cherry flavors and a placebo for comparison.


Then after a week of research, Dr Howatson perform checks on the participants' urine. Apparently, participants who consumed cherry juice for a week had higher levels of melatonin is 15-16 percent higher than the group that just getting a placebo.

Dr Howatson also studied the sleep patterns of participants with a tool called actigraphy. The function of this tool is to monitor and record sleep patterns when awake or during sleep was restless because they do not sleep.

The results showed that participants who drank cherry juice spent on average 15 minutes longer in bed and in general a longer sleep time 25 minutes. In addition, the general quality of sleep increased by approximately 5-6 percent.

Observations in the field, participants who consumed cherry juice are also less likely to feel sleepy in the afternoon so that the work becomes more productive. Dr Howatson believes, cherry juice can be a solution for people who suffer from insomnia or jet lag
